On a journey to find the cure for a Tatarigami’s curse, Ashitaka finds himself in the middle of a war between the forest gods and Tatara, a mining colony. In this quest he also meets San, the Mononoke Hime.In the 14th century, the harmony that humans, animals and gods have enjoyed begins to crumble. The protagonist, young Ashitaka – infected by an animal attack, seeks a cure from the deer-like god Shishigami. In his travels, he sees humans ravaging the earth, bringing down the wrath of wolf god Moro and his human companion Princess Mononoke. Hiskattempts to broker peace between her and the humans brings only conflict.
5.Spirited Away (2001)
Spirited Away is one of the most Americanised Japanese stories ever. It is a take on western classics such as Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland. No wonder it was a big hit in the United States, and marvel also went on to win an Oscar.
Being quite different from the other Studio Ghibli movies, it is best not to start with this one as it would be difficult to grasp the main essence of Ghibli following. Other than that, Spirited Away has a lot of twists and turns without letting you imagine what is around the next corner. You will in fact be ‘spirited away’ on this marvelous ride.

Howl’s Moving Castle, has it all – women empowerment, anti-violence, and sacrifice. You will be in for an amazing experience with world-class animations and intricately detailed visuals. It is believed that Hayao Miyazaki made this movie in response and opposition to the war going on in Iraq at the time.
Howl’s Moving Castle has a powerful theme describing the impact of war and violence in destroying the human soul. This movie has a lot of magic and fantasy riddled with bits and pieces of realism that just hit home.
7.PONYO (2008)
A five-year-old boy develops a relationship with Ponyo, a young goldfish princess who longs to become a human after falling in love with him.During a forbidden excursion to see the surface world, a goldfish princess encounters a human boy named Sosuke, who gives her the name Ponyo. Ponyo longs to become human, and as her friendship with Sosuke grows, she becomes more humanlike. Ponyo’s father brings her back to their ocean kingdom, but so strong is Ponyo’s wish to live on the surface that she breaks free, and in the process, spills a collection of magical elixirs that endanger Sosuke’s village.
